About the TAMU Sailing Club

Mission

An organization with a mission to promote the activity of sailing throughout the community by teaching sailing and providing members access to a variety of sailing related activities.

Boats

The club boasts two fleets of boats ranging from Sunfish and Dolphins to a Nacra 5.2, Nacra 5.7, 3 Hobie 16's and 3 Prindles, as well as several Windsurf Boards. We also have bigger boats, including three Thistles, three Flying Scots, two Ranger 22's and our flagship, a C&C 24. Most of the smaller boats and the windsurfing equipment are in the Lake Bryan boatyard. Bigger boats are in the Somerville boatyard, while the Rangers and C&C 24 are kept in slips at Lake Conroe and the C&C is at Lake Travis. The club has all the necessary equipment for sailing, just bring your bathing suit!

Membership

Membership gives members access to all the equipment in the Club, once the member has demonstrated an appropriate level of skill using the kind of equipment the member wants to use. This procedure is described in detail in our bylaws. To become a member you have to fill out an application packet and pay $40/Semester or $65/Year in dues. This membership, once approved, is good for a semester. A minimum of four service hours are required to members who have a ranking of novice and over to help maintain and run the club. All classes and instruction are included in the dues.

Sailing Events

Every other weekend there is an officer on duty to help members get proficient with more advanced boats and promote safe sailing. Several times each semester the Club organizes informal regattas for the members on Club boats at our area lakes (Lake Somerville and Lake Bryan) and plans at least one trip out of town. Members are available during these outings to provide basic sailing instruction to those interested in learning to sail. Also, every December on Lake Somerville we race the Traditional Aggie Cup and every semester we have the big challenge, the Bluebonnet Cup against the University of Texas Sailing Club and other sailing organizations in Texas. More details can be found on the Events page.
