Hensel Park

The Club meets at Hensel Park before outings, to share rides and make sure everyone knows where we are going. To get to Hensel Park from Texas Ave:

  1. Turn onto University Drive towards Wellborn
  2. Turn right onto South College St. This is the street right before Schlotzskys, IHOP, Rothers, etc.
  3. Go down South College for a few blocks.
  4. Turn Right into Hensel Park. There will be a wooden sign. It isn't very far down...just past all the business on the left.

Campus is down here.

Highway map to Lake Somerville

Note: Hwy 60 (University Drive) does not show up on this map, but it runs from B/CS into Hwy 36.

  1. Take University Dr. out of town...go past Northgate, past 2818 and keep going. University will turn into 60 Highway.
  2. Stay on 60 highway through snook and Lyons. After 25 miles or so 60 HWY will end in a T on a major highway (HWY 36).
  3. Turn left at the T onto HWY 36. Go down this hwy for 4 miles or so. You will enter into the Town of Somerville.
  4. Turn left at the first flashing yellow light. This will be right before the B & B food market and a gas station.
  5. Go down this road...you will past the grocery store and a Dollar General.
  6. Keep following this road all the way across the Dam. There will be a split and a little road off to the right on the dam....keep going across the dam.
  7. After you cross the dam go around the cove to the Somerville Marina. You will turn right into the marina and go past a state park boat ramp and campground. Go on back on this road to Lytles marina and come down the hill to the area where you will see sailboats.

A close-up of roads to the lake

If you're coming in from Bryan/CS, turn right from Hwy 36 at the flashing light by the Pizza Hut/Exxon. This road will curve to the left, then take you up a hill to the top (and end) of the dam. Turn right at this `T' intersection. Follow this road down to the entrance (toll-booth) to Welch Park. The Club will be launching boats from either the beach at the bottom of the dam (turn left when you enter the park) or from the boat ramp (turn right when you enter the park, and follow the road for about half a mile).
